What chiropractors can and can't do in Texas
Under the Texas Occupations Code, chiropractors diagnose, examine and evaluate the biomechanical condition of the spine and musculoskeletal system, and perform nonsurgical, nonincisive procedures, including adjustment and manipulation. Texas chiropractors may not perform incisive or surgical procedures, prescribe controlled substances, dangerous drugs or any other prescription drug, or use X-ray therapy or radioactive-material therapy.

Insurance and coverage in Texas
Medicaid
Texas Medicaid's chiropractic benefit is limited to manual manipulation of the spine, by hand, to correct a subluxation, to the same extent Medicare Part B covers it. It covers the first 12 visits with a chiropractor in a 12-month benefit period. X-rays, other diagnostic or therapeutic services, and braces or supports from a chiropractor aren't covered.

Medicare
Medicare Part B covers only one chiropractic service: manual manipulation of the spine to correct a subluxation, when you have a significant neuromusculoskeletal problem and the subluxation is shown by X-ray or physical exam. Once treatment stops improving your condition and becomes maintenance therapy, Medicare stops paying. Other chiropractic services aren't covered.

After a car accident
Texas auto insurers must include personal injury protection (PIP) in every liability policy unless the named insured rejects it in writing. PIP pays reasonable medical expenses from an accident for you, your household and your passengers, incurred within three years of the crash. Insurers aren't required to offer more than $2,500 per person, though you can buy more.

Work injuries (workers' comp)
The Texas Workers' Compensation Act defines "doctor" to include a licensed doctor of chiropractic, so chiropractors can treat injured employees within the workers' compensation system.
What chiropractic care costs in Texas
Self-pay prices vary by practice, so ask for the cash price before your first visit. As a reference point, here's what Medicare approves in 2026 for a spinal adjustment in Texas (the range covers its 8 Medicare pricing areas):
| 1–2 areas of the spine | $25.67–$27.37 |
|---|---|
| 3–4 areas | $37.03–$39.29 |
| 5 areas | $48.12–$50.84 |
That's the total Medicare approves; with Medicare you typically owe 20% of it after your Part B deductible.
